There are several different types of stump grinders out there to choose from. If you rent instead of buy, you will get to try the different units and figure out which ones you like the best. Later on, when you do have the money to buy your own, you will already know which type you prefer to have. 

Con: Renting a stump grinder is something that may have to be done in advance.

If you do rent a grinder from an equipment rental store, it is best if you reserve the unit as far in advance as you can. Many stores only have a few units available, and they tend to be in high demand among tree service professionals and residential customers.
